We can audit an existing site to help you identify work which needs to be done to improve the accessibility of the site. Alternatively we can carry out a development audit as you develop a new site or redesign a site, to help you keep it on track with regards to accessibility.
All audits are carried out with all users in mind. This includes people with sight problems, hearing, mobility and cognitive impairments, as well as those using older browsers and slow, dial-up connections, or newer technologies such as mobiles and PDAs.
We offer a diverse range of audits to help meet your prefered conformance level or requirements. If you are unsure which audit best suits you or there is something you want that isn't listed here then email us at webaccess@rnib.org.uk or call us on 020 7391 2178.
See it Right audits

Our popular See it Right audit outlines what needs to be done on your site to make it accessible. We provide you with a report that logs all issues specific to your site and changes that you need to implement to reach the See it Right standard. We then carry out a recheck free of charge and, if all issues have been addressed, we issue the See it Right logo which is then valid for one year.
See it Right with UseAbility

In partnership with AbilityNet we offer a logo that combines the best of the popular See it Right award with the benefits of disabled user testing carried out by a panel of web users with disabilities.
The logo is awarded to sites that have been both See it Right audited and UseAbility tested. We will provide you with two reports outlining requirements in order to be eligible for the logo as well as recommendations. Sites which successfully pass the accreditation process will be eligible to display the new logo for one year.
See it Right and WCAG 1.0 audits
Many web site owners want to be able to display the See it Right logo and also claim WCAG 1.0 conformance. For example local authority websites often opt for See it Right plus WCAG Double-A as they want to display the logo but also need to meet WCAG 2.0 under Government guidelines. We can offer any combination of See it Right and WCAG 1.0 audits.
WCAG 1.0 audits
We can audit websites to WCAG Single-A, Double-A and Triple-A. The only difference from the See it Right audits is that there are no rechecks included. If these are required, they are charged for separately. At the end of the audit you will be given an audit report with details of how to improve the accessibility of your site and examples. Note that no logo is issued at the end of this process.
Intranet and on-site audits
If your site is only available on your development server, an intranet or a security protected area we can come to your offices and audit on-site. This normally takes 2-3 days depending on the size and complexity of the site.
Batch audits
We can carry out expert review of a batch of sites to an agreed level such as See it Right or WCAG 1.0 or a combination of both.
We have been doing the Better Connected local authority websites audits for the last 5 years and in 2005 published the eAccessibility of public sector services in the European Union which audited to WCAG Single-A, 436 online public service websites from across the European Union.
PDF Assessments and fixing
We can test your PDF documents against WCAG 1.0 and provide feedback on any fixes that may be needed. We also offer a PDF integration service where we can fix any errors to ensure their overall accessibility including access for screen readers.
The benefits of an audit
When a website displays an RNIB See it Right logo, it shows that the site has been carefully checked, assessed and independently verified to be sure that it meets a high level of web accessibility.
This means that it will not present barriers to information for people with disabilities, and it will be easier for all site visitors to find information and use site functions.
By having their website independently assessed, the site owners have ensured that the claim of accessibility is accurate, and not limited or affected by the level of knowledge within their own web team.
When a website is accessible enough to be awarded the See it Right Accessible Websites logo, everyone's a winner. It provides:
Costs
All audits are individually scoped and costs vary according to the size of your site, whether it contains microsites or is part of a suite of sites. For a guide price list please contact us at webaccess@rnib.org.uk - we'll also be very happy to answer any questions you may have.
Booking an audit
Once you have decided to go ahead with an audit you will need to fill out a quotation request (Word 78kb). This helps us understand the size and complexity of your website, or suite of sites, as well as give you an accurate proposal for carrying out the audit. Once we have received it we will get back to you with a proposal and once accepted, we will confirm dates when the audit will be carried out.
For further information and costs please email us at webaccess@rnib.org.uk or call us on 020 7391 2178.
